Best of Canada 2012: Rookie of the Yearhttp://topmmanews.com/2013/01/03/best-of-canada-2012-rookie-of-the-year/
"The Canadian MMA Rookie of the Year was an easy choice as Smealinho Rama has come out of nowhere and helped breathe life into the once stagnant Canadian Heavyweight division. Rama has gone a perfect 5-0 in his first year of professional competition, taking out the likes of Lee Mein, Craig Hudson and most recently Ryan Fortin. All five of Rama’s victories have come by way of first round TKO or Submission and his impressive rookie campaign has earned him the #2 spot on the Canadian rankings as well as a number one contender bout against the #1 ranked Mike Hackert at MFC 36 in February... Rama Rockin' with Year-End Awardshttp://www.maximumfighting.com/news/rama-rockin-with-year-end-awards/
"It’s been a banner end to a breakout year for Smealinho Rama.
The affable heavyweight from Calgary, Alberta, recently received two sizeable honors that put a nice bow on his season. He was first handed the Maximum Fighting Championship’s 2012 Submission of the Year for his finish of Ryan Fortin at MFC 35, and just two days later, earned the nod as Fight Matrix’s Male Rookie of the Year...."

"One thing has never changed when it comes to combat sports, heavyweights are the fighters that put butts in seats!! Smealinho Rama(5-0) is one of those heavyweights that will be putting a lot of butts in seats as he wreaks havoc in the heavyweight division across Canada. Smealinho is five fights into his career and fighting for the third time on a Maximum Fighting Championships card, there may not be a hotter pro fighter on the planet. Having fought five times in 2012 and never hearing the bell to end round one Rama is looking to dispatch of Mike Hackert on February 15th at MFC 36 in Edmonton Canada in similar fashion..."
Congratulations Amy!
Congratulation to iMMAs own Amy Le for giving birth to Nathan Michael Le 7 and a half lbs 2 weeks early. 51cm long !!! At her side was Husband Michael Le and Nathan's big sister Izzy... iMMA's coaches can't wait to train the little guy to become a champion of the worldAFC 12, Calgary, November 2 /12
Great night of fights at AFC 12 , Telus Convention Center in Calgary.
Tony Stiles ( 5-1 ) vs Trevor Wright (6-6)
Great fight. Tony could have finished it in the very first minute. He locked a tight guillotine choke but let it go because his opponent looked like he was out. Being the gentlemen that he is, Tony didn't want to cause any more harm then necessary. The lesson was learned and in the beginning of the second round, Tony choked out Wright. It was another dominant and solid finish by Tony Stiles and his third submission. Great job Tony!
Allan Munroe (5-4) vs Owen Carr (3-2-1)
Fight of the night. Owen Carr showed heart and a relentless pace. You could tell he had the desire to win at any cost. Allan showed the same desire, but an even bigger heart. It was an intense and close fight, both fighters left everything in the cage. Allan won by unanimous decision.
“It was a very close ,” Munroe told the crowd after running his record to 5-4, while Carr fell to 3-2. “You always come into a fight wanting to finish. There’s a lot of things I need to work on.” -- Calgary Sun.
You may have some things to learn Allan, but no one can teach heart and you have a huge one. Proud of you!
Ryan Hunter (3-1) vs Paul Cheng (3-1)
Ryan lost his fight, but looked on top of his game. He was winning clearly and dominantly. His opponent was discouraged and outclassed. Unfortunately, over aggressiveness cost Ryan the fight. This is what happens among heavyweights -- one little mistake, one reckless step, and everything changes. You have nothing to be ashamed of Ryan, you'll be back stronger and wiser then ever. Proud of you brother!

Hard Knocks 29
Two of our fighters fought @ Hard Knocks 29 in Calgary, Oct 26 : Mark Maruzs (Main event) and Mitch Macphee (co-main event).
Unfortunately they both lost, but they both fought their heart out and represented IMMA and themselves as true warriors.Every defeat is pill that hard to swallow, but there is no shame in defeat when you fight hard and fearless. Mitch Macphee vs Nick Urso earned Fight of the night.
Guys we are very proud of you - Never Quit, Never Doubt , Never Stop!
Smealinho Rama wins by submission @ MFC 35 , Oct 26/12
Once again Smeal finished his fight in a very first round. Referee stopped bout due to tap out, due to rear naked choke in round 1, 2:02.
It was quick, slick and impressive. Smeal secured #2 spot in Canadian Heavyweight division by winning for the 5th consecutive time.
" Heavyweight Smealinho Rama continued his unbeaten streak by winning his fifth consecutive fight in the first round. Rama had Ryan Fortin in trouble on the ground and finally submitted him with a rear naked choke." SportsNet.
"In a battle of rising Canadian heavyweight upstarts, Smealinho Rama showcased his submission skills as well as surprising quickness as he took out Ryan Fortin. Rama (5-0), who fights out of Calgary, Alberta, nearly won in the opening moments with an armbar attempt, and then defended against some ground-and-pound before taking the back of Fortin (6-4) and locking in a rear-naked choke finish at 2:02 of the first round." Fight Network
Very proud of you Smeal! Sky is limit!
